Les Malton travelled on the Asturias, arriving in Fremantle in November 1947.  At that time, the journey had "the largest number of migrants to arrive in Australia in one ship".  There were 1,612 passengers, including 'assisted passage migrants', 100 child migrants, Australian Government passengers (fiancees of Australian servicemen), and 167 Polish Resettlement Corps men travelling to Tasmania under contract to the Tasmanian Hydro-Electric Commision.  Most of the passengers eventually went on to Eastern States, but first had to spend a hot Christmas in Perth.

Les, who now lives in Melbourne, has kindly forwarded many items of memorabilia from his journey for the enjoyment of visitors to this site.  He can be contacted by sending an email to the site administrator.
