Fairbridge K
ids

Fairbridge Kids is the web presence of The Old Fairbridgians' Association of Western Australia. The Association was formed in 1930 and served, and still does serve, as a benevolent organisation with its main mission to enhance the welfare of Old Fairbridgian's - those children whose home for part of their lives was at the Kingsley Fairbridge Farm School at Pinjarra in Western Australia.  Many migrant children from the UK were settled at Fairbridge
.

From the Fairbridgekids website:
8 Jan 2007: The "West Australian" newspaper today published a photo of a large group of children who arrived at Fremantle aboard the Asturias on September 22, 1947. (see Press Cuttings).  There is planned a reunion of these children and I'm sure there would be some Fairbridge, Pinjarra children in the group. The reunion includes the other 1947 (December) Asturias voyage, plus the one in that year of the Ormonde. Details are in the press cutting.

The Child Migrants' Trust

In England and Australia, the organisation best placed to assist former child migrants to find relatives is the Child Migrants Trust. The Trust, established in Nottingham, England, in 1987, works on behalf of former child migrants who are seeking information about their childhood and family history, or who wish to be reunited with members of their family. The Trust has records of all births, deaths and marriages in England and Wales from 1890 to 1993. After research has located relatives, social workers perform the delicate task of counselling and making the first contacts between the client and family members. The Trust operates from two locations in Australia and one in the United Kingdom.

Passengers - Asturias Voyage June 1952 My name is Albert Connorton - my nickname was Conny.  I arrived in June 27 1952 on the Asturias - boarding from Southampton.  I returned to the UK in 1957.  I would like to hear from anyone who remembers this period or was on the same ship.  I shared a cabin with Lofty (second name unknown) who got off in Perth.  There was around 6 in our cabin - a Scot from Glasgow, a fellow from Lancs.  I got off in Melbourne and went to the migrant Nissan huts in Exhibition Buildings. I boarded around St Kilda, Fraser St - Middle Park and mostly around this area.  I got a job as a carpenter when they were building the Post Office in Little Lonsdale St, another with Electrical Supply and Service Company in Lt Lonsdale St.  I would like to hear from anyone from this period - any memories from this time. info@ssasturias.net
