| Frank and Ada Flowers | |||||
| Frank and
Ada Flowers and their four daughters migrated to Australia
under the £10
pom scheme and
they arrived in Melbourne in March 1950.
Their brother Donald sailed on the ship “TSS
Cameronia” from Glasgow. He was required to stay in England
to finish his two year compulsory national service in the air force. He
joined the family in 1951. The
Flowers family lived with their sponsored family on a berry farm at
Wandin Yallock, Victoria, for a short time. "It was a real culture shock; we had never seen an outside “dunny” let alone used one and there were only rain water tanks. Water was scarce at that time and we had to use the same bath water as other family members. The bathroom was outside in a shed along with two troughs for washing clothes. They provided fresh eggs to the local grocer shop as well as the Egg Board, they also grew dahlias which were sold to the florist shop. The farm was eventually sold, and Frank worked in several jobs eventually finishing up selling real estate. |
Ada was the kind
of lady who liked to work outside the home and also be independent. She
had several jobs to help with expenses. They eventually retired to Umina, NSW due to Frank’s ill health. After Frank passed away Ada stayed for several years and then due to her frailty, returned to Melbourne to be closer to family members. Ada passed away in 1998 at Amaroo Nursing home in Ringwood aged 92. Many things have happened since we migrated from the My personal opinion is that the opportunities and life styles we have here in Australia This summary was placed on the “Asturius” website by Frank’s daughter Doris, who lives with husband Max in |
